Babies, Babies, Babies

Since my last posting, we had three more babies.  Without getting my notes, I can't say who was born to whom.  I can say we had two more bulls and finally a heifer.  Since Christmas we've had five babies; four bulls and one heifer.  The Vet is scheduled for the middle of February.  I will say this, they are so cute together as they play and run around.  Big Mama's prayers have been answered and she isn't doing any babysitting to speak of...

Crummy weather with lots of clouds and cold temperatures.  Today we finally got some rain which we are in need of.  They say we may hit the high seventies this weekend.  Winter?

One grandkid is officially driving!  He is free!  Look out Central Texas!!

Cattle News

Dawn, our first home grown heifer, had a baby bull last week.  He was born on the seventh so we named him Seven.  He is full of it!!!  He and Jesus have discovered each other and hang out together.  Big Mama is relieved to have some babysitting help, tho it is more like she just drops Jesus at Day Care (with Dawn) every morning then picks him up in the evenings at dinner time.  Dawn is a good mama and as one of Big Mama's daughters, complies with her mom's wishes.

We were out checking everyone and saw Lance, the bull, in some kind of discussion with the neighboring bull.  It got heated and add the shock of the electric fencing, he became very aggressive and charged us.  Thankfully we were in the ATV and somewhat protected, but he was pretty upset.  Lance has never been friendly but has never displayed any aggressiveness either.  It is something to watch....

We are expecting very cold weather in a couple days.  Not sure about ice and snow yet.  I say this because we have two more mamas fixin' to have babies.  It's a big worry when the weather doesn't cooperate.  We'll see how it all shakes out.

2025

There are high expectations for this year as a new administration takes office.  Hopefully the end of some wars, the end of illegal border crossings, and some sane adult views and actions on spending.  Many promises and hopes have been made; we'll see shortly what comes to pass...

Meanwhile at the ranch, all is calm and bright.  Big Mama had a bouncing baby bull on Christmas.  We named him Jesus (Spanish pronunciation).  Unfortunately Big Mama has no other mama in similar circumstances to help out with the baby sitting so she's having to care for little Jesus herself.  This means a lot of walking around to check on him, as he still naps most of the day while she grazes.

Though it was 88 degrees a couple days ago, we are expecting some winter temperatures and maybe precipitation next week.  I'm not looking forward to any of it.  I am still recovering from the horrible storms from a couple years ago!!!

Grandkids are enjoying driving the Polaris around the ranch when they're here.  Hours and hours of driving around and around along the fence line... They say they are practicing for the "real thing" and getting their licenses.  No stop signs, traffic, etc. so it's a bit of a stretch...

Well, have a very Happy 2025!!!
