We Have Planted Our First Crop!

Last weekend it was finally dry and warm enough to do a little dirt work to get our corn crop in.  It is the eleventh hour in terms of there being a chance for success, but we're hopeful.  It is a small area and about right for our first attempt.

This weekend the corn came up!  So with any luck, in about 80 days we will have our first crop of sweet corn to harvest!

We also put together three raised bed planters for future vegetables and herbs.  I'll be ordering some soil, etc. in the near future so maybe we'll have a fall crop of various things.

It's all very exciting and I'm really anxious (as I am every planting season) to see how we do.  Keep your fingers crossed that we end up consuming things and not the "locale natives".

Bad Boy Versus Baby Bunnies!

In our zeal to mow, it was inevitable that some "close encounters" were going to occur.  I mowed the yard with the Bad Boy and in back tracking on foot encountered these little guys.

Cute, cute, cute!  But can you imagine their terror as the Bad Boy roared inches above their precious little bodies!  Their mama taught them well and thankfully they clung together hunkered down out of reach of the whirling blades!  I counted ears and all seemed well after their "close encounter."
The next morning they were gone.  Mama wasn't going to let anything like that happen again to her babies.
